Town set for Olympic fun
PREPARATIONS are already on track for Stourbridge's 21st annual summer carnival which this year will have an Olympics theme.
Organisers are urging sports and fitness clubs to join in the fun, which takes place on Saturday July 6 - a month ahead of the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Event co-ordinator David Harcourt is hoping the sports-themed birthday bash will be the biggest and best in the event's history.
Previously held on the Wollaston Recreation Ground, organisers switched to holding the summer fun-day in Stourbridge town centre in
1987.
David said: "The first one was a modest affair - but since 2000 it hasn't looked back, it's become bigger and bigger every year."
This year's outing will include the traditional parade around the town just after 12.30pm, which will see trophies awarded to all the winners.
Other attractions lined-up include a fun fair, displays, a host of stalls, craft fair, dog show, face-painting, Morris dancers, street entertainers, dancing groups, demonstrations, singers, bands, birds of prey, competitions, classic car display in Lower High Street and the popular Carnival Princess competition which will be judged at 10.30am on the day.
Groups interested in having a stall at the event, or anyone wishing to get involved with this year's carnival, can call David Harcourt on 01384 378209.
