Golden couple celebrate 50 years
 |
| Marjorie and Ted Walton |
ROMANCE blossomed for a young carpet worker when she met her workmate's brother and tied the knot 50 years ago.
Norton couple Ted and Marjorie Walton married in her home town of Kidderminster and lived in Iverley for 32 years, before moving to Shenstone Avenue 18 years ago.
Ted, who was a miner at Beechtree Colliery, Colley Gate, during the Second World War, met his bride-to-be when she came to his Wollescote home to visit his sister Jean, with whom she worked at Tomkinsons Carpets in Kidderminster.
He was delivering telegrams for the post office at the time and become a postman in Stourbridge, working for the Royal Mail for about 20 years before finishing his working life at Brockway Engineering in the town.
Ted, aged 80, and 74-year-old Marjorie have a daughter and have enjoyed gardening and DIY.
"My advice to couples getting married today would be to live each day as it comes along and enjoy yourselves together," said Marjorie.
