Kinver fayre hailed a hit

KINVER Country Fayre has been hailed a huge success after thousands of visitors enjoyed fun in the sun.

The event, on Saturday May 10, attracted up to 15,000 people to see an action packed programme with a sporty theme.

Former West Bromwich Albion football star Bob Taylor officially opened the fayre which featured a range of attractions including stalls, live music, a parade, country dancing and duck racing.

The ex-Premier League striker, known to his fans as Super Bob', stayed on to sign autographs and present prizes to competition winners.

Fayre organiser Lin Hingley said: "It was a fantastic day with perfect weather and a record number of stalls and entertainment drawing in visitors in excess of any previous year.

"Having Bob Taylor to open the fayre also added to the number of visitors.

"Thanks to everyone who organised, attended or took part for making the day so enjoyable and successful."

Among the day's events were a range of competitions, the best dressed stall award went to Potters Cross Play Group while Five-A-Day greengrocers scooped best dressed shop window.

Young Alicia Rawson, aged four-and-a-half, from Kinver, won the children's fancy dress event and Warren Micklewright, also from Kinver, took top spot on the cake competition.
