Police warn residents to be vigilant

NORTH Worcestershire residents are being warned to close and lock doors and windows if they go out or even leave the room.

Crime Reduction officer Pc Stan Baker said police often see an increase in "sneak-in" burglaries during the hot weather and he is reminding residents to remember to close and lock all doors and ground floor windows when they go out, or even just leave a room or go to bed.

He said: "It only takes a minute for someone to sneak in and help themselves to a handbag or other valuables.

"It is also worth reminding residents that even though darkness falls much later at this time of year, it is just as important to ensure a light comes on at dusk, and timer devices to switch on lamps only cost a few pounds.

"Outdoor security lights which come on automatically when they detect movement may also act as a deterrent."

Pc Baker also urged residents to keep side gates bolted to prevent burglars.
