Friday fun
once again a host of top class cycling fun was had at Halesowen Athletics Cycling Club's(A&CC) Manor Abbey base in the Friday Night Track League.
There were 18 events on the programme.
The first race was the youth eight-lap Course de Prime, an event where the first rider across the line on each lap gains one point.
After a hard race the eventual winner was Tom Young from Leicestershire Road Club, second place went to James Locker from Halesowen A&CC, closely followed by Ted Bate also from Halesowen A&CC.
Event two saw the Senior B Cat riders start their 10-lap scratch race, another hard fought race which ended with the top five riders coming from Halesowen, with Doug Pinkerton taking the win.
The third event was another 10-lap scratch race, this time for the Senior A cat riders.
The pace, as usual, was pretty rapid.
A couple of breaks went but were brought back by the main bunch, a sprint finish saw Halesowen's Tom Baker take the win with club colleague Tom Wiekowski taking second.
The freewheeler events were up next.
Both the freewheeler A and B riders were up for two-lap block handicap race. As always the younger riders produced some great racing with all riders putting in 100 per cent. The freewheeler B race was won by Josef Feivan while second place went to Jordan Sharples.
The freewheelers A race was also very competitive, Harrison Palmer-Parker from Halesowen managing the win, with fellow club member Madeleine Rolinson finishing second.
Throughout the evening there was some very competitive racing including the Youth Kilo scratch won by Emily Kay from Halesowen, the Youth Devil, won by Emily Kay and the Youth 10 lap scratch also won by Kay.
The senior B cats completed 1 km handicap heats and a 10-lap Course de Prime, won by Alex Cogswell from Halesowen second place went to Daniel Harris also from Halesowen and third place going to Steve Mountford from Solihull CC.
The freewheeler B riders also completed heats in the 240m dash races, while the freewheeler A riders competed in the three-lap scratch race.
In both of these freewheeler events Halesowen A&CC riders dominated taking the first three places in each event.
The final race of the night was a combined A and B cat race of 20 laps, with a large number of riders on the track the race was very close.
An early break off the front with Tom Wieckowski and Tom Baker, both from Halesowen A&CC, working well together was a good start to the race.
The bunch eventually bought them back and the pace settled down, with some strong riders in the race the A cat riders upped the pace.
With three laps to go the group was still together and it was going to go to the sprint.
A very exciting finish ended with Martin Osman from MJS Racing taking the number one spot and Jack Hibberd from Sandwell CSC finishing in second place with third place going to Halesowen rider Tom Wieckowski.
